Lenard Liberman is CEO and co-founder of LBI Media, Inc. In this role, he oversees and manages all day-to-day company operations.
Mr. Liberman founded Liberman Broadcasting (“LBI”) with his father, Jose Liberman, in 1987 after graduating from Stanford University with a JD/MBA. While this was his first business partnership with his father, he had for many years operated a mail order business directed to the Hispanic market and through that company advertised extensively on Spanish language radio and television stations across the US.
Mr. Liberman was at various times during the growth and development of LBI the General Manager and General Sales Manager of each of its radio and television stations, and for a period, also served as the company’s CFO in maintaining its banking relationships and its financial reporting. Through his oversight of LBI’s Southern California radio stations, Mr. Liberman recognized an opportunity in the Los Angeles market to owning radio and television stations together and combining their sales and promotional efforts. This observation resulted in the company purchasing KRCA-TV in 1998 and beginning the process of converting its Asian language format to Spanish programming. LBI was the first company to combine electronic media (radio and television) in a major U.S. Hispanic market.
Mr. Liberman and his father successfully applied this strategy of combining ownership of radio and television stations into other large Hispanic markets through acquisitions in Houston and Dallas. In addition to expanding its base of radio and television stations, LBI embraced a television programming strategy that differed from its competitors who repurposed foreign television shows.
Mr. Liberman launched the Estrella TV Network in 2009, which is available nationwide through its distribution partners and its 49 broadcast affiliates. LBI through Estrella TV, has created a programming model that is sensitive to Hispanic viewer tastes while at the same time more relevant to an audience living in the U.S.
Mr. Liberman is actively involved in the operation of LBI’s businesses with a particular focus on programming, sales and strategic planning.
President & Co-Founder
José Liberman is president and co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. Mr. Liberman has served as LBI Media president and member of the board of directors since the company's formation in 1987.
Mr. Liberman is a Mexican immigrant from the state of Veracruz who moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA in 1946, where he studied biochemistry. Mr. Liberman is credited with being one of the early pioneers of Hispanic broadcasting in the U.S. and the founder of LA's first and longest-running Spanish FM station.
To date, he is one of the most highly regarded and well-respected Spanish-language broadcasting executives in the U.S. Mr. Liberman began his radio broadcasting career in 1957 by purchasing XERZ-AM in Mexico, and establishing his own radio advertising representation firm.
In 1975 Mr. Liberman acquired KLVE-FM, the first FM radio station to broadcast in Spanish West of the Mississippi. He later purchased KTNQ-AM in 1979, and initiated a separate Hispanic format on the AM to create the first Hispanic AM/FM radio combo in Southern California.
Under his leadership, KLVE-FM was consistently the market's leading and most successful Spanish radio station in the U.S.
Chief Operating Officer
Winter Horton serves as Chief Operating Officer of LBI Media, Inc., and together with CEO Lenard Liberman, manages the sales and operations of all the company’s radio and television stations and the Estrella TV television network.
In this role, he is responsible for providing the leadership and management necessary to grow the company’s top-line revenue, control the expenses and maintain LBI Media’s industry leading operating margins.
Horton joined LBI Media, Inc. in 1997 as Vice President of Programming for KRCA Channel 62 television, LBI’s first television station. Together with Mr. Liberman, he helped develop the company’s production arm and programming strategy. In 2001, while serving as Corporate Vice President, he successfully launched LBI Media, Inc.’s radio and television cluster in Houston, TX. After achieving success with the Houston properties, LBI Media, Inc. acquired five radio stations and one television station in Dallas in 2004 and Horton oversaw the cluster launch.
He currently travels weekly to the LBI markets, overseeing sales and operations across all properties, including Estrella TV’s network office in New York City.
Prior to joining LBI Media, Inc., Horton owned a production company where he successfully directed and produced television commercials, music videos and television shows for HBO and ABC, to name a few.
Horton is a local Emmy Award-winning director, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
VP, Human Resources
As vice president of human resources, Pat Cabello is responsible for all activities related to HR functions for the company, including recruiting, benefits, employee relations’ issues and human capital management systems.
Cabello brings over 20 years of expertise and a successful track record in strategic HR services, talent acquisition and development, change management, compensation management and diversity initiatives. Her ability and experience in delivering value-added services to companies in the entertainment and digital business space make her a vital part of LBI Media’s executive team.
Prior to joining LBI Media, she served as a human capital consultant for RGP, where she provided best practice recommendations and action plans for performance management systems, global employee survey, pay for performance process and human capital initiatives.
Cabello built her career in entertainment following a successful 18-year career at NBC Universal, where she served in various HR functions. Earlier in her career, she also worked as staff director for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
As head of production, Ivan Stoilkovich is responsible for all aspects of production and day-to-day operations for all the programming and content developed and produced by Estrella TV Network. He joined the company in 2000.
In this role, Stoilkovich has been responsible for network hit shows such as Noches Con Platanito, the only Spanish-language late night show in the U.S., the reality TV smash hit Rica Famosa Latina, another first-of-its-kind in the country, as well as the longest running talent competition and the network’s top-rated show Tengo Talento Mucho Talento, which is on its unmatched fifteenth season, to name a few.
A twenty-year Hollywood and broadcast veteran, Stoilkovich began his career in 1995 when he co-founded his own production company Island Media. He has produced myriad television commercials, and has production credits in documentaries, television shows and feature films, as well as a background in visual effects.
Stoilkovich holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
SVP, Distribution & Affiliate Sales (Estrella TV Network)
As senior vice president of distribution and affiliate sales for the Estrella TV Network, Lewis is responsible for the Network’s re-transmission and network distribution deals as well as OTT, multi-device and multi-platform distribution strategies. Lewis also oversees Affiliate Relations, which includes Estrella TV’s broadcast affiliates.
Lewis is an 18-year veteran of the cable and entertainment industry. She has a successful proven track record in business, sales and contract negotiations across linear, TV everywhere, OTT, multi-device, and mobile platforms, representing the interests of some of the world’s largest programmers and content creators.
Lewis comes to LBI Media with an impressive record of experience and success at Viacom, where she cemented her career in the cable and telecommunications industry. In her last position for the company, as vice president, content distribution, she managed the west coast office for strategic multi-platform distribution across all linear and digital channels and select PPV initiatives. In this role, she handled revenue prioritization and planning, identification of new monetization opportunities and initiatives, and also developed strategic marketing initiatives to service leading cable and satellite distributors.
Prior to Viacom, Lewis was at Discovery Communications for 7 years working across various sales distribution and marketing roles.
She holds a BA in Communications from California State University, Fullerton.
SVP, Network Sales
As senior vice president of network sales for LBI Media, Scott Haugenes oversees all sales and marketing efforts for the Estrella TV Network and Fenomeno Studios. In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing and advertising opportunities for the network’s clients in the US market.
Haugenes has over 20 years of sales and marketing experience and prior to his role of senior vice president of network sales; he served as VP, business development at LBI Media for three years. In this capacity, he increased revenue over 200%, creating advertising and marketing partnerships with companies like MetroPCS, SC Johnson, MillerCoors and Chrysler.
Prior to joining LBI Media, Haugenes had senior roles with ad agencies like Initiative, where he ran the national broadcast team, and digital content companies like Generate and traditional media companies like Disney and Warner Bros.
Haugenes holds a BA in Political Science and History from Hartwick College and is on the Board of WhyHunger . He resides in Rye, NY with his wife Claudine and his two teenagers Dylan and Jackson.
SVP, Client Content/Integration
In 2012, Michael Sheron was named senior vice president, client content/integration. In this capacity, Sheron is the senior executive liaison between the company’s nationwide sales and production teams, ensuring that Estrella TV delivers on its advertisers’ expectations for all their brands’ on-air elements, including: commercials, billboards, on-screen graphics, in-show integrations and sponsorships, custom vignettes and promos, and other client-related projects and initiatives as they relate to television, radio, and digital. He also has oversight responsibilities for Estrella TV’s radio and television promo department and its in-house graphics team.
Sheron, a successful sales executive, began his career with LBI Media, Inc., in 1992 as a sales representative for the company’s then two radio stations, KWIZ-FM Radio Exitos and KHJ-AM Radio Alegria, and later for the flagship KBUE-FM Que Buena. In 1998, he was the first salesperson to make the transition to TV, pioneering the sales staff at KRCA-TV in Burbank, the company’s first television station.
In 2000, Sheron left LBI Media, Inc., to start his own business with his wife. They launched KidSport®, the first nutrition bar formulated for kids, which the company successfully produced, sold and distributed in over 400 retail locations in the Greater Los Angeles area. The company also patented, manufactured, and distributed the OmniBall®, a revolutionary fitness device.
In 2004, Sheron returned to LBI Media, Inc., as general manager for the company’s Dallas cluster, KMPX-TV and KNOR-FM. From 2006 to 2010 he was general sales manager for the company’s TV and radio stations in Greater Los Angeles, and was then promoted to vice president of digital media, where he established the company’s first corporate website before being asked to spearhead all in-house production of client content.
Sheron holds a BA in Economics from UCLA and an MBA in Finance with a minor in Policy from the University of Chicago.
Director of Sales, TV & Radio West Coast Region
Daisy Ortiz is a 17-year LBI Media veteran and currently serves as the director of sales, television and radio, west coast region for the company. In this role, she oversees local sales efforts for both radio and television. She is responsible for the company’s multiplatform campaigns, which include radio, TV, digital and social media assets, as well as overseeing the local sales efforts for the company’s owned and operated stations (O&O).
Ortiz is responsible for working with sales managers in creating cohesive promotional and creative strategies to support clients focusing in Hispanic marketing and advertising programs. Part of her extended duties in this capacity includes overseeing the Houston, Denver and Salt Lake City O&O offices in the areas of sales training, hiring of sales reps, promotional campaign management, revenue forecasting and goal setting. Under her management, she has established a successful track record in revenue growth, continuously developing and promoting talent within her organization.
Her radio career spans over 25 years, and it started in general market radio. In 1993, she began her sales career in Spanish radio at Embarcadero Media, which later became part of Entravision. At this company, she served as an account manager, and later as a sales manager until 1999, prior to joining LBI Media.
Ortiz first joined LBI Media as a general sales manager for KWIZ in Orange County, where she increased sales revenue by 35% in the three years she was there. Following her success there, she became general sales manager for the Houston radio cluster, where she oversaw the sales and promotional activities for four radio stations and one TV station. Ortiz was instrumental in the development and growth of this market and as a result, was relocated back to the company’s Burbank headquarters to lead LA’s radio sales efforts for KBUE, KWIZ and KRQB.
She was promoted to her current position in 2012.
VP, National News/National News Anchor
In February 2016, renowned Mexican journalist Pedro Ferriz Hijar joined Estrella TV as news anchor for Cierre de Edición, Estrella TV’s leading national evening newscast. In July 2017, he was promoted to head the national news team and was appointed as vice president of national news.
A seasoned journalist, Ferriz Hijar has extensive experience and a successful track record covering politics, government and economic issues across Mexico at some of the country's leading media outlets including Efeckto Noticias, Poder Mexico Radio, Poder America, Hola TV, TV Mexiquense and other influential news media outlets.
In his role as VP of national news, Ferriz Hijar is responsible for the strategic planning and management of the network’s news division, including managing content and production for all news-related programing, which includes three national newscasts. He will continue his role as the network’s national anchorman for Cierre de Edición, as he concurrently takes over the role of vice president of national news for Estrella TV.
Well known for his charismatic and articulate news delivery, Ferriz Hijar has become perhaps best known for his closing slogan "¡Hagámos historia!" (Let's make history!) at the end of every newscast. Ferriz Hijar is the third generation of his family to serve in the news media. His father, Pedro Ferriz de Con, is one of Mexico's most outstanding and recognized radio and TV personalities.
Ferriz Hijar earned a Masters Degree at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid, Spain. He also attended Universidad Anahuac del Norte, Universidad Iberoamericana, and Universidad Panamericana in Mexico.
VP, Local News KRCA-62
As vice president of local news for KRCA, Channel 62, Andrea Ospina is responsible for the strategic planning and direction of all local news for Estrella TV’s flagship O&O station in Los Angeles.
A 15-year award winning news veteran, Ospina joins Estrella TV’s KRCA from KTMD Telemundo, Houston, where she most recently served as assistant news director. As the new head of news for KRCA, Ospina becomes the only female VP of news of any major Spanish language station in the Los Angeles market and only one of ten Latinas leading a newsroom in the top 20 DMA’s in the U.S.
Ospina comes to KRCA, Channel 62 with an extensive and impressive career in news. Prior to KTMD, she served as news director at KTAZ Telemundo Arizona for five years. In this capacity, she achieved record year-to-year growth in late news in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 and positioned Noticiero Telemundo Arizona as the most-watched local newscast in the market, regardless of language, for 10 consecutive months.
As vice president of public relations and corporate affairs, Marco González is responsible for developing and executing media strategies, using traditional, social media and digital platforms, to create and uphold a positive brand image and increase publicity coverage.
He is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy for LBI Media, Inc., and also responsible for handling all community affairs and media relations efforts. He also serves as official spokesperson for LBI properties and works closely with executives, producers, talent and radio programmers to create positive media interest in the company’s ongoing entertainment offerings in both radio and TV sectors.
He began his communications career in 2000 at United Way of Greater Los Angeles where he served as the organization’s director of communications after obtaining his Master’s degree in Communications Management from the University of Southern California (USC).
In 2003 he was recruited by Univision Music Group to spearhead all the public relations efforts for the Univision Records label, where he served as national publicity manager. In 2005 González joined Herbalife International as director of corporate communications, Latin markets where he was responsible for all media relations, community affairs, employee communications and executive communications for all Latin markets, including U.S. Hispanic, Mexico, Central and South America for the company. In 2010 he was promoted to Senior Director, Corporate Communications, North America, where he was responsible for all social media, corporate communications and media relations for general and Latino markets in the U.S., as well as Canada, and the Caribbean.
Director, Fenomeno Studios
Iker Calderón is the director of Fenomeno Studios, LBI Media’s multichannel digital platform network. In this capacity, Calderón is responsible for identifying and discovering digital content creators, development of owned and operated channels for the network, creative direction and identifying brand integration opportunities for its various channels.
Calderón comes to LBI Media with artist management experience, as well as an extensive background as a creative producer in the entertainment industry and the digital media space.
Prior to joining LBI Media, he worked as a creative consultant for Banzana.com and tuyoTV. In Mexico, he was director of content and social media for Sopitas.com, Mexico’s most visited entertainment web site.
Calderón holds both a Master of Arts degree in Media Production and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the Universidad Iberoamericana.
